Charlotte's Home

A Combination of Elegance and Rationality

To design a Charlotte style's home, Ding-Rui Tai, a renowned designer, created a space that reflects the personality and taste of its owner. Charlotte, a lover of art and a conservative individual, desired a home that exudes romance and grace. Ding-Rui Tai aimed to create a lovely home that combines perfection, fashion, and attention to detail, while also providing a flexible and art-filled space for Charlotte and her family.

The unique property of Charlotte's Home lies in its ability to seamlessly blend elegance and rationality. The owners, a couple of doctors, embody these qualities in their own lives, and the design of the house reflects this combination. The emphasis is placed on the overall space and the play of light, creating a sense of completeness as soon as one enters the door. The porch and shoe cabinet are cleverly hidden from sight, allowing for a more immersive experience of the space. A hidden door on the side provides practicality and meets the needs of daily life.

In terms of color, Ding-Rui Tai opted for a combination of pure white and light tan, coffee colors to express an artistic taste. The addition of gentle, wooden tones throughout the house creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The living room features an L-shaped sofa that extends the space, making it feel more expansive. The master bathroom showcases a modern and minimalist design, with a streamlined bathtub, washbowl, and pure stone floor and walls. A crystal chandelier adds a touch of luxury without compromising on taste.

Charlotte's Home consists of three bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room, with a total area of 260sqm. The design team, led by Ding-Rui Tai, meticulously planned and executed every aspect of the project, ensuring that the space reflects the personality and lifestyle of its owners.

The design of Charlotte's Home goes beyond aesthetics and functionality. It also focuses on the interaction between the space and its inhabitants. For example, the kitchen seamlessly combines Chinese and Western styles, featuring a stir fry area and a bar zone. In the master bedroom's bathroom, the clever use of glass and lighting creates a runway-like experience, drawing attention to the individual using the space.

The project, which started in July 2012 in Taiwan, was completed in March 2013. Throughout the design process, Ding-Rui Tai conducted extensive research on human behavior and needs in different spaces. This research informed the inclusion of practical features, such as a steam room bench in the bathroom that doubles as a towel holder and a safety measure.

One of the main challenges in designing Charlotte's Home was striking a balance between order and functionality. Ding-Rui Tai recognized the importance of creating a space that promotes a healthy and organized lifestyle. By paying attention to the homeowners' habits and needs, the design ensures that the house remains both aesthetically pleasing and functional in the long run.

Charlotte's Home is a testament to Ding-Rui Tai's ability to reflect the personality of the homeowner in the design. By combining elegance and rationality, the space not only showcases the taste of its owners but also provides a comfortable and art-filled environment. The design was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2018, recognizing its well-thought-out and innovative approach to interior design.
